Couch...ish!

Man it was a beautiful day today it was 50degress by 10am, and we decided to head down, and then up, the hill and do some work on the bus, but before we left we had an epiphany. We have a packer camper (fits in a pickup truck bed) that we were given several months ago as "payment" for a failed attempt at a logging job on our property. Anyway this packer camper has some RV stuff we could use, so why not use it?

We had been trying to sell it to buy parts and pieces that were kind of expensive, but because of this reason and that, we were unable to sell it. We believe it was God providing something we needed months in advance of us actually needing it! His timing is everything! So I spent part of the morning pulling things out of the camper for transport to the bus. Once we got everything unloaded and into the bus we started on building the framework for the couch.

Shanesta snapped a picture of me sitting on our "couch" for the first time. Not much to look at yet, but it's on it's way to being pretty comfy!
We decided we wanted to have storage for small totes holding toys and what-not under the couch (no sense wasting space), so we left decent sized access points in the front for doors, as well as making the seat portion hinge upwards to access the entire area if need-be.
We found out that we had to build the couch/pantry wall before we finished the seat part of the couch so we used the last pieces of 1x6 cedar for that wall and also built the other side wall to support the pantry shelves and help hold the fridge in place when driving. It's really nice to have a counter frame to use as a set of sawhorses..... no more kneeling on the floor to measure/cut!

Well, like I said we grabbed a few parts from the packer camper and brought them up to the bus. Mainly we brought the cushions and the foam mattress. We used the cushions (sans the covers that were wicked nasty) as cushions for the couch. We will spray glue them together and recover them sometime soon. As far as the mattress, we removed the nasty cover and put it on our bed. Lucas tried to claim our bed right afterwards!!!

Ok, long story short, we got the couch done.....ish.... since the cushions aren't re-covered yet. On Monday we will start with the boys' bunk beds after we get some more 2x4's. We are definitely making headway pretty quickly now that the hard parts are done! Praise God!

Well that's all for now, we will post more as we go along, so keep tuned in! God Bless!
